  1. Hi Viga 🙂 Can you clarify something you wrote in this article for me please? What did you mean when you said Amazon won’t rank you until you have 25 reviews? Thanks. Cheryl.

AH…I can’t clarify it 100% but I remember reading about how Amazon’s algorithms work when it comes to ranking books and the article indicated what I wrote in this post, ie. you need at least 25 reviews to rise in the ranking. In short, more reviews = higher rankings. Simplest explanation is you don’t really count/rate/rank until you get 25 reviews. And given the combination of readers being too busy…or perhaps lazy…or frustrated by having to login in and post reviews, not to mention, as you found out, you MUST be an Amazon customer to post a review on anything…it’s hard to get that first 25

  2. Thanks for the response Viga. I’m going to research it some more. I have less than ten reviews but for the categories my book is in, it seems to be ranking well. But, there is always room for improvement 🙂 Thanks for this article! Love your site. Cheryl B. Evans author of I Promised Not to Tell – Raising a transgender child.

Yes, the right topic will make a difference, especially if there’s not yet a lot of other books out there in that category on that subject. I’m sure that all helped my first book too. As much as those who want to write memoir would like to believe folks will want to read their stories, truth is, unless it’s a ‘hot’ topic, as yours is currently, memoirs are a hard sell.

So glad you like my sites. Appreciate the feedback.
