YOUR MEMOIR is a SELFIE IN WORDS
The inaugural issue of MEMOIRABILIA was a huge success and if you haven’t yet purchased a copy, you can still order a digital version in pdf or a printed edition from http://www.vigaboland.com/store . There are also several printed issues of Memoirabilia Issue #2 also still available but going fast. We are currently putting together Memoirabilia Issue #3, for April/May publication. This magazine has been so well received that we do recommend placing your orders quickly once the new issues come out.
It struck me one day that writing memoir is like taking a selfie and posting it where everyone can see you, warts and all, presuming you’re being honest of course. And that’s nor always easy. Sometimes we’re forced to cover up or skirt around the truth to protect the identities of the characters interacting in your story. No-one wants to be sued, even if what you’re saying is the truth. We address this problem in the QUESTIONS/ANSWERS section of the Inaugural issue. We also look at things like what’s getting in the way of your writing. Often the thing standing in your way is yourself…your own inner critic! As one reader told us: “I didn’t know what to call it, but clearly I am in ICU, (Inner Critic Unit). I beat myself up so badly for grammatical errors, I have not been able to write freely. And I have done it to myself. PAGE 13 is the outstanding find in the magazine! The magazine gets FIVE STARS . And I am getting busy reading and writing!”
Issue #2 of Memoirabilia (Feb/March) looks closely at topics like “Memoir Writing as therapy”. We’ve pooled the thoughts of several recognized teachers of memoir writing, presented their views and are leaving it to you to decide if indeed, it’s therapeutic to write memoir. We also have a great article that should convince you that your “First Draft is not Crap”, along with advice about adding dialogue to your memoir writing. You can enjoy an interview with Sandy Richards, author of “A Far Cry…from Home”, along with book reviews and some wonderful stories submitted by our members. By the way, you must read our interview with Barbara Studham, author of “Two Decades of Diapers” in Issue #1. Barbara is the first “graduate” of my memoir writing workshops to put out a memoir, and her book is a fantastic read. You won’t be able to put it down. So order your copies of both issues today HERE.
We hope you’ll join the many who just can’t wait for each issue and who are sending us their submissions for inclusion in “YOUR LIFE TALES…YOUR WAY”.
Just a reminder: we have a very active MEMOIRABILIA GROUP on Facebook and we’d love to have you join us. Check us out today.
